Empowering Youth Through Skills & Capacity Building

we believe that empowerment begins with access to knowledge, skills, and opportunities. In a recent capacity-building workshop, we brought together LGBTQ+ youth to learn, share, and grow in a supportive and affirming environment.

The session focused on strengthening practical skills while also building confidence and leadership among participants. Through interactive discussions and group activities, attendees explored topics such as self-advocacy, communication, and navigating challenges within their communities.

For many participants, this was more than just a learning space—it was an opportunity to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and gain tools that can be applied in their everyday lives. The collaborative nature of the workshop encouraged active participation, allowing everyone to contribute their perspectives and experiences.

In addition to skill-building, the workshop created space for reflection and personal growth. Participants were encouraged to think about their goals, their roles within the community, and how they can contribute to positive change. These moments of reflection are key in nurturing future leaders and strengthening community resilience.

What made the session especially impactful was the sense of solidarity it fostered. Participants left not only with new skills, but also with renewed confidence and a stronger sense of belonging.

At Equal Voices Siaya, we remain committed to equipping LGBTQ+ youth in rural Kenya with the tools they need to thrive. Through ongoing trainings and workshops, we continue to invest in a future where young people are empowered to lead, advocate, and shape their own narratives.
