At Equal Voices Siaya, we understand that wellbeing goes beyond physical health—it includes emotional safety, connection, and the ability to simply be yourself. Recently, we hosted a community wellness session that brought together LGBTQ+ youth for a day of relaxation, movement, and shared healing.
The session created a safe and supportive space where participants could step away from daily stress and reconnect with their bodies through guided stretching and light movement exercises. For many, this was not just about physical activity, but about reclaiming space, breathing freely, and feeling present in a community that understands and affirms them.
Participants engaged in gentle routines designed to ease tension, improve flexibility, and promote mindfulness. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, allowing everyone to participate at their own pace while encouraging mutual support and connection.

Beyond the physical activities, the session also opened up space for conversation and reflection. Attendees shared experiences, built new friendships, and found comfort in knowing they are not alone. These moments of connection are essential in fostering resilience and strengthening community bonds.
At Equal Voices Siaya, we believe that creating spaces for rest, joy, and healing is just as important as advocacy. Wellness sessions like this are part of our ongoing efforts to support the mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing of LGBTQ+ youth in rural Kenya.
We look forward to hosting more safe and affirming spaces where our community can come together, heal, and thrive—together.
